In classical aesthetics, 間 (Ma) sets the interval that orders position, distance, and timing. It determines where one stands and how far one may go.

道 (Michi) sets the way. A line entered through practice. A direction that holds regardless of intention.

The figure occupies a fixed position within this order. Movement follows the way that has already been set. Distance remains in place and defines the limits of that movement.

What surrounds the path stays present and unreachable. The interval keeps it so.

The work holds a condition of placement.
A way continues through it.
